Intended Audience: CMU Graduate Teaching Assistants

Artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping higher education, creating new opportunities and challenges for graduate teaching assistants. This interactive session will explore practical strategies for integrating AI into teaching while maintaining academic integrity and student learning. Participants will learn how to establish clear expectations and course policies regarding AI use, develop effective prompting techniques, and navigate common AI tools with confidence. The session will also address ethical considerations, recognizing and responding to inappropriate student use of AI, designing AI-resilient assignments, and fostering AI literacy among undergraduates. Attendees will leave with actionable tools, sample language, and best practices for responsible AI use in collegiate classrooms.

 

In partnership with the Office of Graduate Studies (OGS), CIS is pleased to introduce the Building Excellence in Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTA) Series. These sessions are designed to prepare graduate students for their teaching roles at CMU, enhance their teaching skills, increase their pedagogical knowledge and practice, and equip them with the tools and strategies necessary to support undergraduate education effectively. GTAs will receive guidance in various pedagogical techniques, teaching methods, and classroom management strategies. They will also have ample opportunities to speak, share, solve problems, and collaborate with session facilitators.

This six-part series is offered on-site in Park Library on Fridays from 12:00 p.m. to 1 p.m. throughout the fall semester. Lunch will be provided to registrants.
